• Running an enterprise often requires good bookkeeping and accounting; having a business plan is also necessary. Part of a business plan includes a marketing plan that encompasses a vision for the enterprise of the future. This marketing plan as it is understood should be shared with the most important people of that enterprise. I am going to do something a little different and share with all Manitobans what I see as the vision for Best of Manitoba. In fact, a business plan is a living, breathing document always changing and evolving. I expect feedback about the Best of Manitoba Vision Statement and I expect that vision to change, too, depending on what feedback is received. The present vision of Best of Manitoba:
  
  "Best of Manitoba is a platform for individuals, businesses and organizations to express themselves in a positive way. Best of Manitoba is open to everyone who wants to share and engage in the development of strong relationships, communities and best practices.
  
  "The Best of Manitoba provides online tools for searching, sharing and organizing information about Manitoban organizations as well as providing a central location of online communities of Manitobans and organizations promoting the best that Manitoba has to offer."

• Substantial improvements have been made. Some in appearance and some in utility. There were some bugs in the site that prevented some users from updating their profile and that has been fixed, as well as indicating required fields. Private member profiles have been masked more completely. Also, a questionnaire has been posted to hear from users what they feel is positive about Manitoba, and in what way they may see Manitoba grow. You will be posted as to the results...

• Progress has been made and some changes should be noticeable such as new content. The R&D continues on and major changes are under way that will make improvements more efficient.

• Without getting into the dirty details Best of Manitoba hasn't been getting updates lately because of new research & development. There are plans to bring more efficiency into the website so bare in mind the Best of Manitoba website will improve.

• There are some new developments at the Best of Manitoba. RSS feeds were introduced last week, and today the expanded search engine database was introduced. These are two elements that will make this website more user-friendly and more powerful.

  OK. This is not a bank where you can deposit and withdraw your money but this is the place where you can make unlimited deposits of opinion and unlimited withdrawals of value against those deposits.
  
  Maybe that is what is meant by putting your money where your mouth is.

• To define the best is a challenge. Where does one begin? Once begun how does one know when it's done?
  
  Let's begin with this: if no one knows that the best exists then it really isn't the best. There should be an agreement amongst everyone that what they see or hear is the best and that there is no one better.
  
  The Best of Manitoba's challenge is to bring people together to discuss what they believe is the best business or organization in Manitoba.

• I was reviewing the Hierarchy of Needs which I had done a little research on back in high school. It was a very interesting model of the development of the individual that I thought was very insightful to what Best of Manitoba is trying to be. The first three levels that need to be satisfied are physiological needs, safety needs and love~belonging needs. Once these three are fulfilled then the drive is towards fulfilling the next two levels: esteem needs (self-respect and respect from others) and actualization needs (to seek truth, beauty and justice). In life and in business we should seek fulfillment for ourselves and for others. This matter is complex but it has a ring of truth to it.

• This might be considered a frequently asked question: What is Best of Manitoba? Best of Manitoba has two sides to it. First, this website is a free service to consumers where they can get together to discuss about matters that are important to Manitobans. Secondly, businesses are showcased in a living, breathing directory. The two sides together provide a channel where everyone can contribute to a constructive environment to do business.

• There is so much information nowadays that it is too much for one person to deal with. We are bombarded with the media of our choosing such as TV or newspapers, and sometimes it isn't the media of our choosing such as blueprints or repair work. We are always asking ourselves (I am assuming we are asking) what is the best thing to do. Should you buy that advertised product at that price, or should you purchase it at that location? Even if you have guidance there is always room for choices and it is even better to have opinions on hand to make the important choices.

• It's a challenge everyday to be the best which is different than accomplishing a goal or a task. Being the best is not an accomplishment, it is the pause before improvement. I am challenging all Manitobans and visitors to tell all about their best experiences doing business or having fun in friendly Manitoba. As the Best of Manitoba website evolves and more features are introduced, more members and participating businesses will join. User-friendliness is a top priority and suggestions are welcome.
