What is needed is a high-speed, maglev bullet train across the prairies from Winnipeg to Regina to Calgary. The impact of such a transportation solution should be obvious. The rich revenues from oil of Alberta combined with the electric generation of Manitoba can produce a transportation gem that unites Canada in the same sense that the early railway united Canada. The federal government needs an energy strategy in the context of Kyoto and should investigate this idea. The key players are in place to have a winning strategy that will serve all the people, governments and business interests in this region for generations to come.

Substantial improvements have been made. Some in appearance and some in utility. There were some bugs in the site that prevented some users from updating their profile and that has been fixed, as well as indicating required fields. Private member profiles have been masked more completely. Also, a questionnaire has been posted to hear from users what they feel is positive about Manitoba, and in what way they may see Manitoba grow. You will be posted as to the results...

I had a copy of Knoppix 3.3 CD and I ran that OS for the first time. It ran very well on my 3 GHz black box. I will have to play around with all these systems and see what kind of monster I can come up with. Funny how my black box PC sits together with my white iBook like Dark Side and Jedi.

On the other hand the I.E.M. is complete and I applied for the certificate. Now as I see it I will have to work in the field to build up my levels. I may actually use this certficate as credit. I was at Unplugged the other day to talk with Jeff about upgrading from my existing Rogers account to a family plan. I upgraded to Nokia 3595 from 3590, and my better half got a Motorola V220. Jeff was patient but we got through all the details without a hitch. My new 3595 has a colour screen and all the features I expected from the older one with slight improvements here and there. I tried the V220 for a couple of days and I liked it, too. It is a camera phone, colour screen, feature rich applications. Comparing the two I like the Nokia slightly better because it has a bigger keypad, bigger screen but the Motorola has a richer screen presence.

I was reviewing the Hierarchy of Needs which I had done a little research on back in high school. It was a very interesting model of the development of the individual that I thought was very insightful to what Best of Manitoba is trying to be. The first three levels that need to be satisfied are physiological needs, safety needs and love~belonging needs. Once these three are fulfilled then the drive is towards fulfilling the next two levels: esteem needs (self-respect and respect from others) and actualization needs (to seek truth, beauty and justice). In life and in business we should seek fulfillment for ourselves and for others. This matter is complex but it has a ring of truth to it.

With the train rumbling only a couple blocks away I am falling for them. Those tonnes of cars being pulled by the engine... I remember driving to Regina with my folklore group and passing a train. I counted the cars and estimated the whole train to be two kilometres!!! It's quite the history for this country for the trains tying us all together, and for Winnipeg as the hub of this country, as I'm told, bigger than Chicago way back when.

I am about half way through my two evening courses I am taking at Red River Colleger continuing ed. A+ is twice a week, and PLC advanced is once a week. These are quite different but I consider them equally IT. I would recommend A+ for sure (it is an A+ equivalence from Cisco Academy). PLCs are for anyone who wants to program those industrial type of machines.

Today is the first full day at our new place. VB and I just moved and it was very tiring but worth all the boxes and flights of stairs. Our view is much better, too. Last night we saw how the Asper Institute changed colour which is something I never saw from ground level. Who knew? But not tonight. Probably just Saturday night? That is it for tonight. I am going to rest some more.

We are bombarded with the media of our choosing such as TV or newspapers, and sometimes it isn't the media of our choosing such as blueprints or repair work. We are always asking ourselves (I am assuming we are asking) what is the best thing to do. Should you buy that advertised product at that price, or should you purchase it at that location? Even if you have guidance there is always room for choices and it is even better to have opinions on hand to make the important choices.
